Whom does Acne Affect?

Acne can affect people of all races and all ages. Acne most frequently effects teens and preteens. Three out of four teens will experience acne. Acne strikes both sexes equally, but teen boys tend to have longer lasting and more severe acne than do girls. Dermatologists speculate that approximately three-quarters of 11 to 30 year-olds will get acne at some time.

But acne is not limited to teens. Many men and women suffer from adult onset acne breakouts. Acne can also occur in babies, toddlers, and children. There are people in their fifties who still get acne. Although acne affects both men and women, young men suffer from acne for longer - probably because testosterone, which is present in higher quantities in young men, can make acne worse.
