Shopping For Clothing in Israel
Shopping designers’ clothes and accessories in Israel is a unique experience of its own. It is kind of in the middle between the ordinary shopping experience you might be familiar with from your hometown in the US, Australia, Canada or Europe, and the surreal one of shopping in the markets of exotic places around the world country, where everything is handmade, colorful and fun to wear. Israel is a small country but due to the dynamic and creative temper of its people, there are lots of artists and designers. They live all across the country, but as we live in the center of Israel our recommendations of shopping in Israel are focused mainly in Tel-Aviv and the center.
The most
recommended place to look for clothing is at the malls. A lot of people have
this illusion of Israel being a dessert wasteland. There are 3 major shopping
malls located in the Tel Aviv area such as the Azrieli center, Ramat-Aviv mall
and Dizengoff center, as well as a large number of shopping centers such as Gan
Hair (city garden) in the town center and Shuster center in Ramat Aviv. The
malls and shopping centers are filled with Israeli brand stores such as:
Castro, fox and TNT, and International ones, such as: Forever21, Bentton,
H&M and recently opened American Eagle. In addition, you may find stores
that present local designers’ products. Michal Nagarin, a famous jewelry
designer, has a number of stores in major Israeli malls. There are also stores
and chain stores which present a collection of items from various designers. Adi Sadey has a store in Bazel Square shopping
center, where she sells — besides her jewelry — also fellow designers’ clothes
and shoes.
If you are
searching for a more authentic “Middle Eastern” look and want to stay connected
to the Israeli fashion scene, you can find what you are looking for at Neve Tzedek which is located in the southern
part of Tel-Aviv and see where everything started and shop interesting
designers’ fashion. While you are there, go to the “Tahana” (station) — a
renovated site where Tel-Aviv’s first train station was located, with preserved
building s that are currently used as showrooms for clothing and jewelry
designers. Some of our recommendations are: Banot, Razilii and Butterfly by
Shirli Grover.
Another
exciting shopping venue is the famous Dizengoff Street. There you will find
mostly wedding dresses and evening gowns, but also some shoes stores and more
casual wear. If this is your plan leave your car at home or at the Hotel’s
parking as Dizengoff street must be concurred by foot only- no parking space in
that area! Not far from there, you can also visit Shenkin Street and find some
more clothing suitable to wear at the beach such as swimsuits, bikinis,
sandals, visors, etc. Shenkin Street is very close to the beach so make sure to
buy some cool beach attire!
As you can
see, it is not so difficult to find designers clothing and accessories in
Tel-Aviv. Your options are almost unlimited. And the added value is everything
you buy will be unique and make you feel special, as you are wearing something
that is a part of a small collection, hand sewed by a local sewer and is made
of high quality materials. If you are unable to travel to Tel-Aviv, however,
you can always shop for clothing and accessories on-line. E-bay and Esty are
the best places to look for clothing and accessories online.
Almost every weekend, and sometimes even in
the middle of the week, there are special sales at public places or at
designers’ studio’s/ homes. Sometimes on Fridays, there are also sales at local
bars- those are especially fun as you can also buy cheap liquor and there’s
great music as well. You can try to find out which event hosts many designers
in one place and also which one is most recommended.
