Over 500 billion US dollars are being spent annually on Event Management for organizing the different types of events worldwide. Clients generally rely on event management companies to handle a specific scope of services for the given event, which at its maximum may include all creative, technical and logistical elements of the event. An event manager is someone who is mainly responsible for the organizing an event. Event managers and their teams are often behind-the-scenes running the event. Event managers are experts at the creative, technical and logistical elements that help an event succeed. Some event planners specialize in one area such as weddings, while others will tackle almost any assignment. A high number of event planners started by doing one aspect of event planning (such as catering), then expanded to eventually handle all aspects of the event.

Excellent analytical and organizational skills are one of the most important qualities that an event manager should have. The planner coordinates all the details to help the event run smoothly and meet its objectives. Creative problem-solving skills are helpful, as is a sense of logistics. Communication is also an essential skill. The event planner must be able to comprehend the host’s objectives. He/she must be able to interpolate those objectives impeccably into the event itself. He/she must be able to motivate staff and promote the event. Being socially savvy and having great interpersonal skills are necessary to event planning. Event planners may be expected to interact with people of all ages and all socio-economic groups, and may even need to acquire some cross-cultural skills. High energy and a positive attitude can be helpful when trying to plan an event.

While starting an event planning service doesn’t require a specific college degree, business education and experience is helpful. Anyone who is interested to make a career in this field must complete a graduate degree or diploma from accredited universities or colleges. The study of Event Management includes developing the various skills like organizational skills, technical knowledge, personal relationship, marketing skills, human relations, budgeting, risk management, etc. in the students.
